2011 Events

Feb. 11th  – Keynote Speaker Greg Rigamer, CEO of GCR & Associates will analyse the 2010 U.S. Census Results, particularly in light of the exploding Latino population in Louisiana. /  Welcome Rodrick Miller, the newly appointed President & CEO of the New Orleans Business Alliance,  the public private partnership for Economic Development for the City of New Orleans. / HCCL Installation of New Officers & Board

Wed. April 27th  -     - Keynote Speaker, The Hon.  Jay Dardenne, Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana, will speak on Multi-Culturalism in Louisiana.

Fri. July 22nd -– Keynote Speaker, The Hon. Tom Schedler, Secretary of State of Louisiana,  will speak about new initiatives in his office to make doing business in Louisiana an easier process.  Among other points, he will highlight GeauxBiz.com created to ease the frustrations that businesses have trying to find information about licenses and permits necessary for their operation.  It is a starting point for customers to obtain information regarding which state agencies will need to be contacted for a variety  of registration documents; you are able to go online and create a customized checklist for your individualized business. Secretary Schedler is very interested in getting to meet and work with the Latino community in Louisiana.

Mon. Dec. 5th – ANNUAL MEETING - Keynote Speaker, Jason Marczak, Director of Policy of the Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA) of New York City will present “The Economic Impact of Immigrant-Related Local Ordinances”.  This analysis looks at local immigration-related ordinances in 53 U.S. cities and what effects those either restrictive or non-restrictive ordinances created – whether intentionally or as unintended consequences – on the business environment and  economic growth of those cities.  The findings were revealing and surprising in many instances.   It is the first time that a hard statistical study of this kind has been done on the subject.

Thurs. July 7th-         Very Special Network Evening at The Historic New Orleans Collection with special viewing of exhibit The Threads of Memory: Spain and the United States.  New Orleans is one of only 3 U.S. cities selected to host this exhibit from the Archivo de los Indios in Seville, Spain.

Wed. Aug. 3rd   -  HCCL joins the Algiers Economic Development Foundation to bring you a free outdoor concert -NOCHE LATINA ON THE POINT (Algiers Point was founded in 1798!) – part of the Wednesdays on the Point Concert Series!  HCCL will be your emcee and present bands OTRA and JAVIER & ELEGANT GYPSY.  Joining HCCL on the big stage will be Latin  D-J’s  “Potris” & “JC”  of the new Spanish radio stations  LA MEGA  107.5  &  LA RAZA 830  on your dial!  Come dance your feet off!

Mon. March 28th:  HCCL & World Trade Center of New Orleans Joint Breakfast Briefing for His Excellency Luis Benigno Gallegos Chiriboga, the Ambassador of Ecuador to the United states; “Doing Business with Ecuador”; at Plimsoll Club.

July 20th: — Visit the HCCL Booth at the Urban Entrepreneruship Forum in New Orleans.  Presented by the White House Business Council, the White House Office of Public Engagement and the Domestic Policy Council, in partnership with the City of New Orleans, the Forum will  focus on providing tools to support job growth and foster economic success for local entrepreneurs.

Wed. Sept. 27th – HCCL participates in U.S. Congressman Cedric Richmond’s Economic Summit for Small Business, and further participates in a round table conversation with stakeholders on the pending Free Trade Agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea.

Fri. Sept. 30th–  HCCL is guest speaker at National Latino Law Conference for their national convention in New Orleans.

Thurs. Oct. 6th :  HCCL is featured speaker at New Orleans conference of the Sacramento Metro Chamber’s 13th Annual Study Mission on Workforce Development.

Oct. 20-21: HCCL is invited speaker at Americas Society/Council of the Americas meeting in New York City dealing with issues of integration of the immigrant workforce in U.S. gateway cities.

Nov. 30-Dec.2nd:  – 35th Annual Conference on Caribbean & Central America.  At Marriott Hotel in New Orleans.

 

2011 Training Programs:

1)     Workforce Training Development Program with Bilingual Access -  2011 marks our 4th year with this highly successful program, the only one of its kind in the State.  Latinos learn soft skills on bilingual basis for job placement in the local economy.

2)   NEW – starting in April 2011:  Technical Assistance for new and existing businesses (focus on Latino owned) located in the affected storm parishes of Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike.

 

RADIO SHOWS:   HCCL has shows on Spanish radio every week. 

1) Sunburst Media’s two stations based  in New Orleans :   La Raza  8.30AM,  simulcast with La Mega 107.5 FM    -   Saturdays at 8:00AM .  (Day & time subject to change.)  We recently celebrated our 3rd year anniversary with this business show.

2)  NEW!  Radio Tropical KGLA  15.40AM,  SIMULCAST  with their 105.7  KGLA FM station in New Orleans,  and–  KDDK Radi0 105.5 FM in Baton Rouge, LA on Thursdays from 11:30AM – 12:00Noon. (Day & time subject to change.)
